Path's Recent Activity - Photos

Peer Advocates for Total Health are OSU students who care about health and wellness issues, as well as other people. They come from all academic majors and are formally trained to encourage health education and health promotion by helping other OSU students understand the important relationship between lifestyle choices and maintaining an optimal state of health and wellness.

PATH members serve as peer health educators on campus by giving presentations on all aspects of wellness, including alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and sexual wellness. PATH members help to represent the Student Wellness Center at campus-wide events, and they also assist with planning and implementing activities on campus during events like World AIDS Day, Sexual Responsibility Week, National Nutrition Month, the How the Health Are You? fair, National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, and many others.

If you are interested in joining PATH, we will accept applications on a rolling basis until the 2007 fall quarter deadline, which is Friday, October 12.

For more information please check out the PATH web site. You could also call the Student Wellness Center at 614.292.4527 or email PATH's president, Carolyn Wait at wait.10@osu.edu, for more information about PATH.

Become a volunteer HIV Test Counselor!

The Student Wellness Center offers Anonymous HIV Antibody Counseling and Testing to all OSU students for free. The trained, volunteer HIV Test Counselors do not simply administer the test. Their responsibilities include helping students who are concerned about HIV transmission to:

  • improve their perception of risk
  • identify their risk behaviors
  • negotiate a reasonable and realistic plan to help reduce risk
  • support the client in making a decision about testing and preparing for the result
  • help the client who tests to begin to integrate the result emotionally, behaviorally, and socially.

Training & Time Commitment: Each HIV Test Counselor is required to attend a two-day training only offered the beginning of fall quarter. In addition, HIV Test Counselors are encouraged to volunteer to do counseling and testing at least two (2) hours per week. Counselors are also required to attend a quarterly meeting held the last day of classes each quarter.

Qualities of a good HIV Test Counselor: good listener, open-minded, non-judgmental, sensitive, patient, friendly, and reliable

The training has passed for the 2007-2008 academic year, but if you're interested in becoming trained in Fall 2008, please email Katye Miller. Applications for Fall 2008 will be available this summer.

Get trained to give Condom Demonstrations!

In order to become a member of the Condom Club, in which OSU students can purchase up to 50 condoms for only $5, all interested students must watch a brief demonstration about the proper steps in putting on a condom. Trained volunteers offer these demonstrations at the Student Wellness Center during the hours of 2:30pm-4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

If you are interested in becoming trained to provide condom demonstrations to your peers at the Student Wellness Center, please contact Katye Miller at 292-4527 or kmiller@studentlife.osu.edu.
