Stalking
What is stalking?
Repeated unwanted contact, that may or may not be sexual in nature. Stalking involves a wide range of behaviors and can be done by someone that you've had a relationship with as well as someone that you may not even know.
It could be stalking if...
- Someone you used to have a relationship with repeatedly calls or someone you went out with once (or not at all) does the same thing.
- You feel like you're being followed or watched &/or notice that you are.
- Someone appears anywhere you may be for no legitimate reason.
- You get repeated, unwanted, emails or instant messages.
- There are intrusions into your personal, school or work life.
- You get unwanted gifts and attention.
- Someone makes threats against you, your pets, family or your friends.
Wondering what to do...?
Many people try to "manage" unwanted contact on their own. At some point, it may feel unmanageable. If you'd like to speak with some one about a situation, please contact our office (292-4527) and ask to speak with the CAP Coordinator or call 267-7020 and select the "Campus Advocate" option. You can then leave a message and a Campus Advocate will call you back and make arrangements to speak.
The CAP Coordinator and Campus Advocates can help you: figure out your options and come up with a plan. Some options we may speak about include: safety planning, speaking with police, contacting the city prosecutor's office (which handles stalking cases), getting a protection order, speaking with Student Judicial Affairs - plus other options. We can also support you in taking any steps you would like to take. Also, please check out the materials attached to this page for more information and resources.
