The sexually well person engages in sexual relationships that are consistent with his or her values and development, and refrains from using sex to manipulate, coerce, exploit, or influence others. In addition, s/he minimizes unwanted consequences through communication, protection, and risk reduction measures.

A sexually well person understands sexuality and accepts his/her own sexual identity. S/he understands each person expresses their sexuality in a variety of ways and the importance of respect and acceptance of the diversity of values and beliefs about sexuality that exists in a community.

A sexually well person understands that involvement in sexual behaviors poses risks. Abstaining from sexual intercourse is the most effective method of preventing unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

A sexually well person understands that all sexual decisions have effects or consequences and all persons have a right and the obligation to make responsible sexual choices that are consistent with the individuals’ beliefs and values. A person who has been sexually active in the past, can in the future, choose to abstain from all or specific sexual activities at any time.

The Student Wellness Center’s goals are to assist students in developing and maintaining skills to make decisions consistent with the students’ beliefs and values; to provide accurate information about sexual wellness; to assist students in developing skills including assertiveness, decision making and communication skills which will encourage healthy relationships; and to encourage students to make responsible decisions regarding sexual relationships including addressing abstinence and the use of risk reduction measures (i.e. birth control, condoms, other barriers, etc.) if a student decides to be sexually active.

To reach these goals, the Student Wellness Center offers a variety of services around sexual wellness. These services include:
