Alcohol & Drug Education Presentations
Choices about Alcohol This session is designed to help students make educated choices about drinking in college. Activities 1) examine the pros and cons of drinking, 2) provide information about the physiological effects of different levels of drinking, 3) offer guidelines for lower-risk drinking, and 4) assist students in setting goals and generating strategies for minimizing the harmful consequences of drinking.
Double Dare Students test their alcohol knowledge in this adaptation of the Nickelodeon hit. Presentation features physical challenges performed while wearing beer goggles.
Kickin' Butts Presentation focuses on behavior modification approaches for successful tobacco cessation, while also providing tips to those who would like to help a friend quit using tobacco.
Party Smart This interactive group discussion educates participants about Ohio and Ohio State University alcohol laws and policies as well as what it means to be a “responsible drinker.” Participants are introduced to various alcohol issues through real-life scenarios. The emphasis of this presentation is on education and dispelling common myths surrounding college students and alcohol. Minimum of 20 and a maximum of 50 people for this presentation.
Women and Alcohol Students learn how alcohol affects women differently than men. This information can help all women to make smart, safe choices about drinking.
Financial Education Presentations
Financial Independence A program designed to help students plan their expenses in relation to their income that emphasizes developing a spending plan that will help students not run out of money before they have new income. This program takes about one hour.
Movin' Out Presentation provides students with information and resources that surround planning and finalizing a move off-campus. Topics such as budget development, legal rights/responsibilities and rental options are covered. The presentation is approximately one hour in length.
Using and Understanding Credit Presentation addresses the issues surrounding the use of credit cards, including how much their use increases the costs of purchases and how using credit cards can affect one's future access to credit, employment and insurance. This program takes about one hour.
General Wellness Presentations
Body Image and Eating Disorders: Being Comfortable in Your 'Genes' In the United States, as many as 10 million females and 1 million males are struggling with an eating disorder, and millions more are struggling with binge eating disorder. Because of the secretiveness and shame associated with eating disorders, many cases are not reported. This presentation addresses what body image is and the different types of eating disorders. In addition, learn what you can do if you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder.
Discussion on Health Insurance in America Health Insurance in America is a hot topic right now. Learn the various options with health insurance, what it means if you're uninsured, barriers to health insurance, and the affects of not having health insurance as well as the various political party platforms on Health insurance.
Fitness Basics Are you looking to get fit or stay in shape? This session covers guidelines for improving and maintaining cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness, flexibility, and body composition. It also provides information about campus and other fitness resources. Participants will leave with the information they need to build an effective workout program.
Healthy Eating on a College Campus Learn how you can make the most of your meal plan and how to make healthy eating choices on campus and when dining out. In addition, learn how you can make some of your favorite meals and snacks in your own residence hall room.
Imagery

Are you or your students having difficulty relaxing? In this session, we will discuss (briefly) stress and various ways to manage stress and we will practice an imagery session. You'll leave feeling relaxed and with resources to use imagery in your daily life.

Spirituality at OSU In this interactive session, students will explore the meaning of spirituality, how to develop spirituality and why it is important. There will be an opportunity for reflection and sharing. Additionally, students will receive handouts on the resources available for spirituality at Ohio State and in Columbus.
Staying Well at OSU This program reviews basic guidelines for nutrition, fitness, stress management, low-risk drinking, sexual health, and other behaviors. It also discusses personal health assessment & management and campus health promotion resources, programs, and services.
Stress Management Through this interactive session, students learn all about stress, including definition, causes, consequences, and how to deal with it. Special emphasis will be placed on how to decrease or manage stress. Breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and imagery will be introduced. Students will leave feeling refreshed.
The Balance of Weight Management This session focuses on strategies for achieving or maintaining a healthy weight by discussing nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle behavior change.
Time Management Through this presentation, stress management will be discussed as well as various ways to manage stress. Time Management will be emphasized and students will leave with the knowledge of how to utilize time management as a stress reduction tool.
Wellness Bingo Did someone say BINGO?! Come play this timeless game and learn more about drugs, alcohol, sexual health, nutrition, physical activity, and other wellness-related trivia!
Sexual Health Presentations
AIDS in Black America The "AIDS in Black America" video by ABC PrimeTime Live will be shown and followed by a discussion. A minimum of 90 minutes are needed for this presentation. A DVD and TV are needed to facilitate the program as well.
Contraceptive Grab Bag Participants are divided into groups and each group selects one contraceptive out of the “grab bag.” Each group has to answer a set of questions about the contraceptive they selected, ranging from how to use it to its approximate cost. After the groups finish answering their set of questions, the whole group reconvenes and the facilitator goes into more depth about each contraceptive. As always, questions and comments (as long as they are appropriate) are encouraged during this session. A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 50 people are required for this presentation.
Healthy Relationships Through the interactive program, healthy relationships will be defined, stages of a relationship will be discussed, as well as role playing on ways to deal with differences and power struggles in a relationship. Participants will determine various issues that arise in relationships (i.e. jealousy) and working with the facilitator to think through these issues and options students may have in the particular situations. Lastly, we will be discussing how to maintain a healthy relationship.
HIV Jeopardy This fun, interactive, and educational activity, based on the popular game show and adapted for a group presentation, addresses facts, statistics, and popular myths about HIV/AIDS. A minimum attendance of 10 and maximum of 40 is required for this presentation.
Latex and Safer Sex Through interactive activities participants learn why it is necessary to use latex barriers and how to properly use them in order to reduce the risks associated with STIs and pregnancy. Some common misperceptions about latex barriers and other sexual health topics are dispelled as well as discussing other commonly asked questions. Participants have the opportunity to join the Condom Club at the end of the presentation as well. Minimum of 16 and maximum of 40 for this presentation.
Let's Talk About Sex This session offers an interactive discussion regarding the risks associated with sexual behaviors as well as provides relevant information concerning sexual wellness and college students, including a question and answer session that addresses commonly asked questions and dispels common myths surrounding sexuality and sexual health. Minimum of 10 and maximum of 40 for this presentation.
Safe, Sane and Sexy Our goal in this program is to make students aware of a number of choices and risk factors related to sexual activity.

The program will enable the student to:

1. Understand the relationship among
  • the clear acknowledgement of consent to sexual activity by both parties.
  • the use of effective birth control and sexually transmitted infection risk reduction methods, including abstinence.
  • the consumption of alcohol and/or other drugs.
  • 2. Identify at least three risk factors associated with alcohol/drug use and sexual activity.

    3.Increase his or her knowledge of effective birth control and sexually transmitted infection risk reduction methods, including abstinence.

    STI Jeopardy This fun, interactive, and educational activity, based on the popular game show and adapted for a group presentation, addresses facts, statistics, treatment, and risk reduction of STIs. Minimum of 10 and maximum of 40 people are required for this presentation.
    STIs 101 The eight most common STIs (sexually transmitted infections) are the major focus of this presentation. Through group discussions, participants learn the truth and dispel the myths that surround STIs. Frequently asked questions as well as STI risk reduction are also discussed. Minimum of 16 and maximum of 40 for this presentation.
    VOICES/VOCES VOICES/VOCES is a single-session, video-based HIV/STI prevention/risk-reduction program. It's interactive and designed to encourage condom use and improve condom negotiation skills among African-American and Latino adults.

    A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 students that are gender- and ethnic-specific are highly recommended.

    At the end of this session, participants are given the opportunity to take samples of the types of condoms they have identified as best meeting their needs.
