Health Risk Appraisal
The Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) is currently unavailable.
What is Health Risk Appraisal (HRA)?
The Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) is offered to students who wish to improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle. The program takes a personalized approach to promoting health, wellness, disease prevention, and self-care.
The HRA program is designed to give students an indication of their overall health status, including lifestyle behaviors that may adversely affect their health in the future. Key areas of an individual's health status will be identified, both healthy and unhealthy. Unhealthy indicators will be addressed through education, in order to promote preventive services on campus and in the community, and to reduce the overall risk of adverse health problems.
Who is eligible to participate?
All OSU students are eligible to participate in the program. There is no fee for the HRA service.
How do I schedule an appointment?
The HRA is currently unavailable through Student Wellness. Please check back at a later date to see if it's offered again.
What does a Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) consist of?
A health questionnaire about lifestyle habits must be completed prior to the appointment. The HRA Questionnaire can be downloaded from this page. Prior to your appointment, your HRA counselor will review your questionnaire and prepare a report on your strengths and potential areas for improvement.
At your HRA appointment, the HRA counselor will perform some body measurements, including height, weight, body fat composition, and blood pressure. These measurements provide additional information about one's risk of developing chronic disease.
The HRA counselor will review your body measurement and questionnaire results with you. In addition, the HRA counselor will provide detailed information related to your areas of concern, answer any individual questions, and make arrangements for any further health-related counseling.
How long does the appointment take?
The HRA program should take about an hour. It may take more time if you have a lot of specific concerns and questions that you wish to discuss with the HRA facilitator.
Who will be facilitating the program?
The HRA is currently unavailable, if you have questions regarding the HRA, please feel free to contact Katye Miller. Katye holds a master's degree in health promotion and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
